AA, NA, and Al-Anon Meetings and Evans Addiction Resources

man who turned his life around with Evans addiction resources Drugs and alcohol kill Colorado residents by the thousands. AspenRidge Recovery Fort Collins wants to connect addicts with the Evans addiction resources that can save them.

Evans, CO gained statewide attention last year when the Evans Police Department started equipping their officers with Narcan. Narcan is an overdose-reversal medication that helps to revive opioid users would otherwise die of an overdose. While the Evans PD is not the first to start using the drug, they are at the beginning of a trend that seems to be picking up steam.

The Police Department’s decision signifies an increased awareness around the drug problem in Colorado. But, while it may help to save some lives, Narcan won’t end the problem entirely. It keeps addicts alive for the time being but does nothing to actually get them off drugs or keep them clean in the long-run.

Unfortunately, there’s no cure-all solution to the problem of addiction. Addiction is still a disease that needs to be treated with therapy and counseling. Luckily, there are plenty of resources that can provide these services for the people that need them.

Here at AspenRidge North Ft. Collins, we believe it’s our job to connect addicts with these Evan addiction resources. So, we’ve outlined this guide to AA and NA meetings. Hopefully, this might help addicts find a support network so that they can start their recovery journey.

Narcotics Anonymous: Addiction Recovery Support in Denver

Opioids kill almost 600 Coloradans every year. But, addicts aren’t getting proper support.

In 2017, nearly 600 Colorado residents lost their lives to opioid addiction. More than 250 died of a meth overdose. And, unfortunately, the problem only seems to be getting worse.

Perhaps the worst part of Colorado’s drug problem is that addicts aren’t connecting with the proper support channels. As The Colorado Health Institute points out, less than 16% of active addicts receive proper treatment.

Therefore, it’s clear that something needs to be done. In order to prevent the loss of more lives, it’s crucial for us to help addicts find the treatment they need.

One place where addicts can get help is Narcotics Anonymous. Luckily, Evans, CO has a strong NA community.

Narcotics Anonymous is an organization that helps addicts see the path toward recovery. In NA meetings, newly recovered addicts connect with those who’ve been sober for many years. The group comes together to share stories, talk about their recovery progress, and work through the Twelve Steps together.

NA holds meetings every day in cities and towns all across America. They are held in town halls, high schools, restaurants, college campuses, and all kinds of other places. These meetings are always free. Most of them are open to the public. Many people find that Narcotics Anonymous is a life-changing experience.

Addicts from all walks of life attend these meetings. NA members come from diverse backgrounds and struggle with all different kinds of addictions. There are people in the Program that are addicted to heroinmethprescription pillscocainemarijuana, and numerous other substances.

Alcoholics Anonymous: Battling Colorado’s Drinking Problem

In Colorado, alcohol is just as bad of a problem as opioids. For many people, it’s worse because alcohol is so readily available.

According to the Colorado Department of Health & Environment, 1 out of every 5 residentsshows signs of alcohol abuse disorder. The signs of alcohol abuse disorder include binge-drinking and participating in reckless behavior due to excessive drinking.

Alcoholism can have disastrous effects on a person’s life. It can contribute all kinds of illnesses including liver disease and heart disease. And, it causes thousands of fatal accidents every year. In Colorado alone, alcohol is involved in more than 200 fatal collisions annually.

So, it’s extremely important for us to help addicts find recovery support. Doing so will not only help us save the lives of alcoholics but save lives in the rest of the community, as well.

Alcoholics Anonymous similar to NA because they’re both based around the Twelve Steps. These Steps are a system developed to help addicts get sober. Throughout the Program, addicts confront their past mistakes, ask for forgiveness, and learn how to have empathy for themselves and other people.

There is no timeline for how long it should take to complete the Steps. Addicts are encouraged to take their time when moving through the process. The intention is for alcoholics to develop a newfound sense of awareness that can only come with time and meditation.

The Steps don’t work for everyone. But for many people, they are a saving grace and the key to sobriety.

Al-Anon: Supporting Colorado Families

The United States Children’s Bureau estimate that roughly 12% of all US children live with a drug addict or alcoholic. Considering that the total population of the United States is nearing 236 million, that’s more than 30 million kids who are affected by the addiction of an adult in their life.

In other words, there are a lot of children out there who could benefit from talking to someone. Living with an addict, after all, isn’t an easy thing to do.

It’s not just difficult for children, either. It’s difficult for adults, too. Having any type of relationship with an addict is hard. The parents, spouses, and siblings of addicts all suffer.

This is why Al-Anon holds support meetings for the families of addicts. Every day, this group gathers help family members connect with one another. Members bond around the common experience of loving someone who is an addict.
